Can you give me a long descriptive paragraph on how to straighten thick hair??

My hair is thick in someplaces and normal in the rest, basically theres just a lot of it. I know how to straighten hair, but can you give me a very descriptive process (like a couple paragraphs or so) on how to straighten hair and get it to its fullest straight potential?

Here's what my hair is like:

1. I'm white (not to be racist, I just know that there is some hair thickness diferences sometimes)

2. Its long, down to my lower back.

3. it splits easily (i already have alot of split ends)

4. its nearly impossible to keep straight or watever all day!

first thing is first, and a MUST is to trim off all that dead weight! i'd suggest a good stylist so the thickness throughout your hair can me fixed and maintained, go for layers and thinning it out with some sheers (thinning sheers will just thin out your hair, so it's not as thick, if your hair goes back quickly, go back on a regular basis)

also try a good shampoo AND conditioner to help put moisture and some life back into your hair and to help it from breaking so easily (try panteen pro-v, it'll whip your hair back into shape, guaranteed!) also if your hair breaks and splits easily, be sure to use a leave in conditioner at least 2-3 times a week, or a light leave in conditioner that you don't have to wash out, and can use everyday (panteen makes a good one, big bottle $7 at drugstores)

when straightening your hair, put some syrum and/or spray to add shine (maybe to also help straighten out your hair as well), and to protect your hair from the heat (a cheap but good brand that does add shine and protect your hair is beyond the zone's spray..it comes in an orange pump bottle)! it's VERY important that you do so!! blow dry it out with a flat brush.

when straightening it, do it small section at a time. i can't be specific with the size of the section because it really depends on your flat iron size, but reguardless, keep it small. you can start from bottom to top, by clipping your hair up and working your way up, or you can go from side to side. what i usually do is start with small sections from my front to half way to the back. then repeat on the other side. remember: SMALL SECTIONS.

and investinging a good proceline or ceramic flat iron is best, the steel plated ones just FRY and damage your hair like crazy and they don't have a very long life span either.

to help keep it straight throughout the day (which the syrum/spray shoud help) after straightening a section, lightly spray it with a light hairspray (try shaper plus hairspray, HUGEASS can $18 at costco, it wont' flake and won't leave your hair stiff!) or you could also use some gel thinned out with some water when it's wet as you use the syrum/spray then blowdry.

you might want to reconsider chemically straightening it if your hair goes back fast, because it'll just be a big waste of money. your hair will grow back, and half of it will be straight and the other half your natural hair. it also may damange your hair even further, but check with a stylist if you do decide to go this rout.

hope this helps!

good luck!

go to have ionic perm...it will straighten your hair and your will be as smooth and shiny as silk. No joking but you have to spent 5 hours for the perm.

if you dont get it chemically straightened then try doing your hair in layers.

first put your hair in a ponytail leaving the hair closest to the nape of your neck down and straighten it...then keep working your way upwards.

as your working upwards your straightening your hair again and again so it shoudl be pretty straight.

I have the same hair as yoo but mine is shorter but i had long hair before. buy some hair bobbles and put up all of your hair except a small bit left out at the bottom (like, 1/2 of a cm thick) straighten that then repeat by putting some more hair down and straighten that keep doing that until all of your hair is straight then run over it a few times also, wide straighteners are easier for thick hair and you can get it thinned out a bit at the hairdresser and make sure you get it trimmed every 6 weeks to minimise hair damage. a straightening shampoo and conditioner can help it stay straight.

First get a trim, get rid of those split ends! This will help the hair stay weighted and not have flyaways.

Put something that will protect your hair from heat styling such as mizani's. It's important because these products will protect and nourish hair that is damaged from straightening, and a good one will contain ingredients to keep your hair silky, shiny, and straight throughought the day. Then get a ceramic coated straightening iron. It's safer for your hair than metal ones. Put your hair halfway up and straighten the hair left, put a little more down. Essentially you work from underneath to the top. Hold the iron for 5 seconds on the ends so they won't frizz up.

Most important for post-care: Keep cool. Stand by a fan while straightening. Sweat and moisture from your body will make your hair frizz!

if you got ur hair cut or trimed it would be a lot easier too! after you get it cut then you can start blow-drying ur hair every morning with a big round bristle brush...then u can straighten it with a skinny or medium flat iron...then spray some hairspray on ur hair so it will stay throughout the day. u dont have to use a very strong hairspray, you can use a lighter kind and just spray ur hair frequently with the light hairspray throughout the day!!!! You can also buy a smoothing shampoo, conditioner, and balm for ur hair at the hair salon or hair products store!!!! Biolage works best!!!!

Hope I helped!!!!! ; )

you don't even need a long paragraph.

my friend has the same hair as you, she got hers chemically straightened. The only problem with that is you sit there forever! The thing most girls don't do with their hair is use a straightening gel along with your straightener it helps so much.
