I bought an at home kit and did it myself. My hair isnt have as thick as you are describing and it didnt make one bit of difference for me. All it did was fry my hair. They are very bad for your hair actually. If you want it done though, I would suggest getting a professional job which Im sure will cost $50.00 or more

omg gurl..my hair is the same..curly and thick and at first i hate it but as i started growing up i found style for it and hair cut that i learn to love it..and well one of my friends had the same and she got it chemically straightened and well it went BAD..the chemicals runied her hair alot and felt/look as it was fake.. and she had regret it and your gonna have to protect it from the sun... so i suggest not to do it.. but i guess it takes around $100 a little less or more depending on your hair length..

Yeah, my sister actually just got her's done, and it looks great. I'm thinking of getting it too, even though my hair is somewhat a wavy/straight kind of deal. It looks great. It doesn't completely leave your hair pencil straight, maybe only some touch ups ( not much) but the overall quality is amazing. I love it. My sister just got it done at a training college ( you could go to Fran Brown, or another place like that) but it looks professional. My sister only paid $20. Which is a steal, if your comparing elsewhere.

If you get it done by a qualified professional it can look amazing. the best i've seen is the Matrix line of straightening. Expect $200-$300. If you get it for cheap there is a reason why.

Chemical hair straightening is not a difficult procedure, but it does require a thorough technical knowledge of the relaxing process. Therefore it should always be performed by a hair care professional with a track record of success with straightening. The reason why you need to have a perfessional perform this type of procedure, so that they can perform a strand test to determine the recommended strength of the relaxer that should be used. The stylist should also evaluate current hair texture, porosity, elasticity %26amp; the presence or absence of any hair damage.

A strand test can be done in a variety of ways:

1) Pulling the hair to determines its degree of elasticity.

2)Applying a small amount of relaxer to determine the hair reactions to the chemicals.

3) A finger test.

These products are generally used in chemical hair relaxing procedures:

-chemical hair relaxer formula

-neutralizer

-petroleum cream

-shampoos designed specifically for relaxers

-hair relaxing conditioners

there has been good %26amp; bad feedbacks, but it really all depends on your hair %26amp; how it would react to the chemicals too. I would consult with a stylist about this, is be/c they would be able to tell you more with by looking %26amp; observing your hair....there
