Where/How can I learn how to straighten my hair?

I don't have the easy to straighten Caucasian hair, and I don't have the biracial African-American hair. My hair is very thick and very very curly and I can't use the usual magazine routine on straightening my hair. I've asked my hairstylist how to straighten it and I took out a lot of my hair from using her technique. I take out large plugs of hair everytime I try to straighten it. What am I doing wrong? What can I do different?

don't straighten a big chunk of hair at one time....and make sure you have a ceramic flat iron...

condition your hair....and buy a spray that is used before blow drying.....when you blow dry....make sure to straighten as much of your hair as possible...make sure to get those roots...and then straighten your hair in sections...don't rush it...and it should be silky and straight

You should get a Maxi Glide Flat Iron it will straighten any type of hair. Or go to a shop and have them walk you through the process that they use.

If you are using a hot comb you may have it too hot. Test by pressing on a napkin or paper towel. if the paper towel burns then you will burn your hair and it will burn right off.
