Is it possible for me to get my hair chemically straightened?

Hey there everyone,

I am 17 years old and have REALLY tight curly hair I have gotten my hair chemically straightened before and it went curly again within 3 weeks... I DIDN'T treat my hair at all..

I was wondering... If I was to try again and actually treated (Brush it and etc) would it stay straighter longer and what advice can people give me on keeping my hair straight?

Thanks in advanced,

Kriogenic.

I'm confused. You got you hair straightened with a chemical; I assume it was a relaxer. And in 3 weeks it reverted? That sounds like your hair was not processed with the proper strength relaxer or long enough.

If you have REALLY curly hair, then you may need a double application. The first application of the relaxer is to break the natural curly bonds of your hair so they can be straightened. Then the second application, done some weeks later (NEVER ON THE SAME DAY), is to set the newly created bonds of straight hair so they do not revert to their original curl pattern. If you have really resistant hair this process, DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL, is for you.

And yes your hair will grow out from the roots and your new growth ( the hair closest to the scalp) will need to be re-processed perhaps every 4-6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows as your natural curls will come back.

OR you could just get a good washing with shampoos specifically formulated for smoothing kinky and frizzy hair, then have it blown dry with a straightening serum and then flat ironed with a flat-iron serum and then finished with a reversion resistant spray.

Or you could look into the "chinese/ japanese" thermal straightening which is a cross between the chemical breaking of the hair bonds and then applying heat to straighten them.

Either way you need to go to a professional and have a consultation. Also, if you choose the chemical application the a strand test is a necessity as it will tell the stylist exactly how long your hair will actually take to process and become straight.

i wouldnt take that risk, i'd stick to hair protectants and straightening irons. since my friend has permed her hair about over 10 times and all have became curly in 2 weeks. plus it'd probably add more damage to whats already been.
