I'm wondering if I should straighten my hair. Please brief me?

I have a lot of hair and right after I wash it it's kind of poofy for the next 24 hours, and then it settles itself. It's long, the longest parts about 3 inches from the bottom of my ribcage. I don't have highlights and I've never dyed my hair. I don't do anything else with my hair other than wash with herbal essences "Dangerously Straight" shampoo and conditioner. Recently I've tried working hair gel into my side bangs to make them behave, but it's not as good as I want them to be. I saw some hair straighteners in Walmart's beauty section for about 15 dollars. I don't plan on straightening my hair every time I wash my hair, only every other time. What's the basic method? About how long will it take for me? Any tips? Thank you so much!

Okay so you take a shower and shampoo and condition and all that good stuff. You should definatly keep using the dangerously straigh products, that's what I use and they really help. When you get out of the shower, either blow dry your hair or let it air dry. I would suggest blow drying becasue it's faster and then it means that you spend less time using the flat iron. If you do blow- dry, point the dryer down and brush your hair while using it, that will help straighten your hair. Once your ahir is 100% dry, you can start straightening with the flat iron. DO NOT USE A FLAT IRON EVEN WHEN YOUR HAIR IS A LITTLE BIT DAMP. YOU WILL FRY YOUR HAIR!!!! First, spray your hair with a heat protector, like Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Iron Me Flat Finsighing Spray. (i know it's a really long name) It comes in a small magenta bottle with a green top. Spray it mostly on the ends of your hair, a little in the middle and none in your roots. (it will make them greasy) Then use the straightener. Depending on how curly your hair was to begin with, this could take between 5 and 30 minutes. It usually taks me between 10 and 15. Straighten a small section of hair at a time(like maybe 2 inces across) Start as close to your scalp as you can and thyen slowly move the iron down. Do not stop moving the iron or it wilol crease your hair. Be sure do brush you hair often because it's much easier to straighten when it's not tangled. You may have to do a couple areas twice, but don't do anymore than that. After your finised straightening, spritz a little bit of hairspray to hold the look in place. Finally, UNPLUG YOUR FLAT IRON!!! I've almost bured down my house at least 5 times. Enjoy your new look.

if your hair is naturaly straight it shouldnt take you long to straighten. Just make sure before you straighten to use a heat protectant cream so you wont damage your hair!

i wont lie, i have the same hair problem, and it takes about a half an hour, but you cant use a hair straightener from walmart, they dont work good at all. try buying one at sallys. and what you have to do is party your hair in sections. 1st in half, they in a 1/4 then in 1/8. straighten it slowly and evenly. then buy some silk serum to make it shiny. i use biosilk.

Get a Wet to Straight straightener if you are going to go through walmart. Only use it on dry hair though, thats how it works the best.

Make sure to pin up different layers of your hair as your straightening, starting from the botton. If you try to do it all at once it will not work.

no sure bout the outlet..i payed 130 bucks for mine a chi.. heres some tips though.. buy a product called bio silk and before you flat iron your hair apply that try and deep condition your hair every three days curly hair is a lot drier than straight hair.. try and wate longer between coloring your hair..get a trim about every 5 weeks even if its half an inch.. when flat ironing your hair take and pull your hair up in a pony tail..and use small sections when straghtining... treat your hair like silk and you should be in the clear hope this was help full.. i have lots more answers on hair...

Seperate your hair in sections. The thinner the sections, the better b/c you have thick hair.

While you are flat ironning it, go as slow as possible because the slower you go, the straighter it gets

Keep doing this all around and you should be fine

Well yes, like everyone else said, straighten it in layers. If you want your hair thinner you should go to your salon and ask to get it thinned out. I know people who do because they have such thick hair. But just an idea :)

My hair is pretty thick too and I straiten my hair a lot. So these are my steps:

1) Warm it up on highest temperature and wait 5 min.

2) While doing that pull hair half up.

3) Straiten the bottom layer, start at roots

4) Let hair down

5) Straiten the top layer, start at roots

Extra tips:

*For the back I use two mirrors so I can see the back of my head

* There can be other layers of hair (like under the bottom layer, behind the ear) You can use a clip or whatever to pin your hair up and then straiten the extras.

well first of all be prepared to pay at about 100$ + for a good straightener. stay away from the "conair" straighteners. Try a good ceramic one.

for product i use a few. the shampoo also makes a huge difference. I usually alternate between bottles of Matrix Sleek Look (orange bottle) and Redken Soft (gold bottle). Yes, I straighten my hair every day with a straigtener. As long as you use conditioner and put in leave in conditioner after the shower. Some hair products are, John Frieda Hair straightning solution and almost any hair product company has straightning solutions. There are 2 products that I use that work really well.

1. Redken-Smooth Down Heat Glide, it protects your hair against the heat and minimizes frizzies. You only have to use 1-2 pumps so it lasts a long time.

Also when you straighten your hair try not to wash it the next day, with my hair I only can go 2-3 days without washing it. When you wash your hair everyday it washes out all of the natural oils that keep your healthy. I usually can wear my hair down for 2 days straightened and the next day I wear it in a pony tail or bun. You can also add a little bit of baby powder to your hair when it starts to get greasy to take some of the grease and shine out. I do this so I'm not damaging my hair everyday with the heat. You can get any ceramic made hair straightener, the ceramic kind is the best protection for your hair. You can probably go to your hair salon and pick up a good straightener and product there. My hair is thick and down to my waist if I perm it or chemically straghten it cost 100$ if im luck most the time its about as high as 120$ The reason for this is because not only is it a longer process because of the length but it takes more solution to perm/straighten hair if long and thick, someone with short hair would probly be about 60$ But longer hair is more expensive. To perm my hair it took 3 bottles of perm solution to cover my whole head/hair! If your hair is naturally striaght it should be at least about 100$ and easier to straighten then if it was naturally curly. Definatly check more than one place for prices because they can vary depending on how well known they are. I found a great place right by my house that did my hair for 80$ the best price i ever got! They did a great job! They told me they have to give cheap prices because they are not well known and in there shop is not very visible.

you already have chemicals in your hair.. it is hard to stragihted color treated hair.. but i am not sure if it is otherway around.. I am sure you can dye your hair 'coz i have seen people dye their grey hair even after getting japanese permanant straightening done :)... but when you talk about damage... chemicals are never minerals/food to hair.. if you need style you have to mess up with chemicals :)
